Bjoern Birkeland

Bjoern Birkeland is an engineer with over 25 years of oil and gas industry experience. He obtained his Bachelor degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University, and his Master degree in Petroleum Engineering from both Texas A&M University and Institute Français du Pétrole, Paris.

The earlier parts of his career was with Transocean, followed by Amoco / BP. In the more recent years he has been working as a drilling consultant for BG and Tullow Oil amongst others.

Bjoern has extensive drilling experience from semi-sub, jack-up, drillship, and platform rig operations. This from both exploration and production wells. 

He has been involved in HPHT, deepwater, harsh environment drilling operations. The wells have been new drills, extended reach wells, multi laterals, and sidetracking of existing wells. He also has experience from well abandonment off subsea wells, platform wells and land wells.

He has also worked shorter intervals as:

  • Well interventions supervisor
  • Well control instructor
  • Process engineer
  • Reservoir engineer
  • Rig modification engineer

International experience: Bjorn has primarily worked in offshore Norway, UK Atlantic margin, North Sea, and offshore West Africa.
